Hoenningstad Type 5A Finnmark
|
Introduction
Browsing lately W. Green´s /
G. Pollinger´s Aircraft of the World 1965 [1]
I once again came across the Hoenningstad Finnmark
5A flying boat (see picture 1 right). This time I
decided to search for more information and put it on my website. It fits well in my type
collection, being quite obscure and having that
mysterious look like the
Lockkeed Lodestar
and the Swearingen Metro for
example.
History
The Hoenningstad 5A Finnmark amphibian flying boat was designed by
Birger Honningstad and built by the Norsk
Flyindustri A.S. near Oslo, Norway. The prototype was
first flown on September 17, 1949. No other aircraft
of this type was built.
The original sponsons with retractable combined
wheel and ski undercarriage were later replaced by
fixed outrigger floats and the Finnmark was operated as a pure
flying boat.
According to [1] The Finnmark in 1964/65 was still
owned by
A.S. Norronafly.
